Exporting Research Materials

All shipments must be processed through eShipGlobal unless exceptions have been granted to the Yale shipping policy. Certain shipments are subject to import/export regulations, depending upon their origin, destination, intended recipient, and/or contents.  Use of Yale’s approved shipping application assists in identifying whether a shipment is subject to a particular regulation. Shipments requiring further review will be forwarded to EHS for approval.

Every shipment that is being exported needs a commercial invoice so customs will be able to assess both the content and value of your shipment. While all required paperwork is provided by eShipGlobal, a commercial invoice can be made on your department letterhead. The invoice must state a ship to and from address, description of what you are shipping, quantity, value of shipment, and the reason for shipping. Environmental Health and Safety can help evaluate export requirements involving research materials prior to shipping. For assistance with any shipment not involving research materials, please contact the Office of Export Controls at exports@yale.edu.
