High-speed cell sorters can generate significant bioaerosols in the event of a clog or deflection during their use. If used with biohazards, appropriate containment measures must be in place. The following information has been assembled by the Yale EHS Biosafety Office to ensure adequate containment is in place if sorters are used with unfixed human cells and other biohazards.
