Surveys provide a direct measure of the presence of radioactive material inadvertently spilled on a person, surface or piece of equipment and are an indication of the radiation hazards during an experiment. It is vital that individuals working with radioactive materials are aware of accepted procedures for performing such surveys. Radiation Safety considers twice background levels of removable contamination to be a level of contamination generally requiring cleanup.
