2024: Alexander Polussa

Alexander took the lead on Professor Mark Bradford’s USDA Soil Importation Permits and not only completed the application, but wrote the lab’s SOPs, prepped for a USDA inspection, and brought Dr. Bradford’s lab into full conformity with the USDA APHIS PPQ requirements for importing soil samples. He also conducts the annual required refresher training for the lab staff and ensures that his lab is in conformity with all of the permit requirements while keeping that lab USDA inspection ready in the event of an unannounced inspection of their lab. This came to light during an EHS field safety training of a group that did not need any additional training on the USDA requirements because Alexander had already completed the training for the lab. Due to Alexander’s efforts on behalf of Dr. Bradford, EHS is confident the lab will successfully pass the USDA soil permit inspection when the day arrives.
