This training program describes the hazardous characteristics of chemicals, routes of entry, symptoms of exposure and how chemical exposure is evaluated. Sources of information on chemicals hazards are described (specifically container labels and Material Safety Data Sheets) as well as how to obtain this information. General chemical handling precautions are reviewed as well as task specific chemical exposure controls. Proper use of personal protective equipment and good personal hygiene is emphasized. Emergency procedures - including chemical contamination and spill cleanup are described. Links are provided to Yale’s written Hazard Communication Program and OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard. This course meets the requirements of the Hazard Communication Standard.
Learning Objectives: To provide training and information to workers on the hazards of the chemicals they may handle or encounter and the means to protect themselves against these hazards.
Audience: This training is required for all clinical personnel who may work with or around chemicals. Please note: The following course is intended for non-Yale University employees (i.e., MPM – Medical Practice Management). Any Yale University affiliate with an active CAS username and password, should sign-into Workday Learning to receive credit for completing any required training courses and programs.
