Research Materials Shipping Training Requirements

The following training requirements must be completed by all research personnel involved in any aspect of shipping or receiving research/clinical materials.

Cultures or stocks of human pathogens (Infectious Substance, Category A affecting humans)

Cultures or stocks of animal pathogens (Infectious Substance, Category A affecting animals)

Human materials with a high probability of containing a human pathogen (Biological Substance, Category B human origin)

Animal materials with a high probability of containing an animal pathogen (Biological Substance, Category B animal origin):

Human materials with a low probability or not known to contain a pathogen (Exempt Human Specimen)

Animal materials with a low probability or not known to contain a pathogen (Exempt Animal Specimen)

Dry Ice (with none of the materials listed above)

Materials not regulated for transportation (e.g. proteins, antibodies, DNA) (Bio non-Regulated)

Note: Some of these materials may still be controlled when exported from or imported into the United States

Using a properly prepared dry shipper to ship non-regulated biological materials following the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Special Provision A152 (SP A152)
